"If you know your enemy and you know yourself,
you will not be afraid of the result of hundred battles.
If you know yourself but not your enemy,
for every victory obtained, you could also suffer a defeat.
If you don't know neither the enemy nor yourself,
you will defeat every battle."
Su Tzu, "The art of war"

The knowledge of the self and of the enemy is essential for the practicing:
for this reason Viet Anh Mon requires different styles to be studied.
The main differences among them are their fighting strategies:
according to different styles, there are static positions or passages in rapid
progression, hard or soft tecniques, long or short distance,
linear or circular movements, in accordance with the classical dualism of the Taoist philosophy.
The program of Viet Anh Mon includes a first approach to fighting through the study of static,
"outer" styles, allowing the practicing to learn the use of force
and contraction and introducing him to the modality of medium and long
distance fighting (as the Thieu Lam Chu Gia).
Then continues with the study of styles characterized by short distance and a greater rapidity
(as the Thai Cuc Duong Lang),
to get at last to the investigation of "inner" strategies
(T'ai Chi, Vinh Xuan),
that show softer, circular movements.
